Door weight is only one input when selecting a closer. Door width, mounting arrangement, opening angle and the surrounding conditions also matter. A closer that operates correctly on a demonstration board may not behave the same way on an exposed entrance or a door with unusual seals.

Describe the opening conditions

Provide the leaf dimensions and construction, frame details, available mounting space and required opening angle. Explain whether the opening is internal, external or subject to pressure differences. Ask the manufacturer to recommend a model and mounting arrangement against that information, rather than selecting from a single weight figure.

Agree the required functions

Identify whether backcheck, delayed action or other functions are needed. Any hold-open proposal should be reviewed for the intended opening and its requirements; do not treat it as a harmless upgrade for every door. Request installation and adjustment instructions with the quotation.

Review the supplied package

  • Closer body, arm type and mounting brackets.
  • Fixings suitable for the specified substrate.
  • Product identification and finish.
  • Model-specific performance evidence where required.

During sample review, check the mounting dimensions and available adjustment access. Final operating behavior depends on installation and setting as well as the product. Have the responsible installer confirm that the proposed closer can be fitted and adjusted on the actual opening.

AN Sourcing buying notes. These are practical procurement checklists; specifications, service scope and destination requirements should be confirmed for the actual order.
