The total thickness of a composite panel does not describe its construction. Two panels with the same overall dimension can use different face sheets, cores, back sheets and edge details. Ask suppliers to provide a complete layer description so that offers can be compared against the intended application.

Request a cross-section

Record face material and thickness, core specification, adhesive system, back material, overall thickness and edge treatment. Identify the fixing system and whether the panel is flat, folded or formed into a cassette. Ask which dimensions are finished sizes and which are manufacturing allowances.

Connect the panel to its use

Explain whether it is an interior decorative surface or part of an exterior assembly. Required performance evidence depends on the application and jurisdiction. Do not infer fire, structural or weather performance from the material name alone or from a report covering a different build-up.

Review the sample package

  • Cross-section sample and representative finished face.
  • Edge closure and corner details.
  • Proposed joints, supports and fixing accessories.
  • Relevant test documentation identifying the supplied construction.

Inspect visual uniformity and dimensions against approved references, while keeping specialist performance review separate. If any layer changes after approval, ask for a documented assessment of its effects before accepting the substitution. A change hidden inside the panel may still alter the overall product.
